Game Guide To Duel Of Magic

Duel of Magic provides a venue for those wishing to test their skills in spell-slinging and supernatural energies. When you first begin dueling in Duel of Magic, you will be limited to the eight basic spells; however, as you progress through the ranks you will be awarded with the use of more advanced ones. Each spell will earn either a point (by causing your opponent harm), a half-point (by protecting you from harm), or a miss depending on how it reacts with your opponent's spell. Often, the interaction of spells will be spectacular, even with misses.

The basic spells:

Mage Bolt - Lightning at the caster's fingertips.
Wizard Blades - A set of whirling, razor sharp blades.
Mind Whip - A narrow psionic blast.
Fear Touch - An icy hand of gripping fear upon the opponent.
Shield - A shield-sized force field.
Armor - Gives the caster skintight, impenetrable armor.
Displacement - Teleports the caster in a random direction.
Foul Fog - A noxious wave of multicolored gas.

Learning New Spells

When your rank increases to Enchanter, Scorcerer, or Magician, you will be able to choose one of the four advanced spells to add to your arsenal:

The advanced spells:

Reflection - A mirror-shield for turning attacks against an opponent.
Ghostform - Makes the caster non-corporeal, just like a ghost.
Meteor Shower - A torrent of flaming rock.
Arctic Blast - Blankets an area with ice, hail and cold.

The Standings Keeper will notify you via email of your rank increase and ask you to choose a spell, which will then be reflected on the standings. Wizards will automatically receive all four spells.

When you reach the rank of Mage you may choose from one of the two Mage powers. Each is an extremely useful spell, as neither fits a purely offensive nor defensive pattern:

Nether Ray - A high-energy beam of magic.
Immolation - A white-hot wall of fire.

The reigning Archmage may use both Mage powers. When an Archmage is dethroned, he or she becomes a Mage Emeritus and may rotate between the two Mage powers on a duel-by-duel basis, but can no longer use both within a single duel.

Should you ever drop in rank, you will lose the last spell you learned. A drop from Mage will cost you your Mage power; a drop from an intermediate rank will cost you the last advanced spell you learned. If you are able to win back the rank, you are not required to pick the same spell you lost and are free to choose a different spell.

Invoking the Elements

Only the five Keepers may harness the energy of their respective towers (Celestial, Earth, Fire, Water, or Air) into the awesome spell Elemental Fury. This spell takes on a different form depending on which Keeper uses it. A Keeper may only use it in a challenge match or against a fellow Keeper, and only once during a duel, so use it wisely.
